{"id":433908,"date":"2026-01-24T06:52:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T06:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/433908\/"},"modified":"2026-01-24T06:52:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T06:52:16","slug":"what-eddie-jones-makes-of-angus-crichtons-rugby-switch-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/433908\/","title":{"rendered":"What Eddie Jones makes of Angus Crichton\u2019s rugby switch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The man who first tried signing Angus Crichton to Rugby Australia remains more than convinced the Sydney Roosters back-rower will be an instant success.<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Jones was Wallabies coach when Crichton was first sounded out about switching codes in 2023, only for negotiations to drag on for months, then ultimately collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Crichton\u2019s manager David Rawlings slammed the process with Rugby Australia at the time as \u201cbad business\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Crichton this week signed a two-year $1.6m deal with Rugby Australia and the Waratahs. When Jones first reached out, the deal was for a similar amount but with Crichton to play domestically with the Western Force.<\/p>\n<p>Jones has since taken over coaching duties at Japan and welcomed the chance of potentially facing Crichton and the Wallabies at next year\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rule for me has always been, \u2018if you can play State of Origin, you can play Test rugby\u2019 \u2013 Angus is a proper State of Origin player, so he\u2019s going to make it in Test rugby,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Eddie Jones joined Manly coach Anthony Seibold at Friday\u2019s scrimmage against St George Illawarra\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/d7858eaf6a5a13e6184c2fe731e6a180bb28ce85.jpeg\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Eddie Jones joined Manly coach Anthony Seibold at Friday\u2019s scrimmage against St George IllawarraCredit: Max Mason-Hubers<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big thing will be settling on a position quickly, then they need to coach him really well. Coaching for the league players [is really important].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think No. 12 is the right position for him.
