{"id":434162,"date":"2026-01-24T09:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T09:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/434162\/"},"modified":"2026-01-24T09:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T09:35:08","slug":"chloe-logarzo-berryhill-retires-with-immediate-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/434162\/","title":{"rendered":"Chloe Logarzo Berryhill retires with immediate effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Western Sydney Wanderers have today confirmed that Chloe Logarzo Berryhill has retired from professional football with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>Logarzo Berryhill had <a href=\"https:\/\/aleagues.com.au\/news\/matildas-star-chloe-berryhill-details-shock-retirement-plan-afc-asian-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">flagged that this season would be her last<\/a> when she returned to the Wanderers in December, and had hoped to be able to earn a spot in the Matildas squad for AFC Women\u2019s Asian Cup in March.<\/p>\n<p>However scans confirmed that Logarzo Berryhill had suffered ACL, LCL and tendon avulsion injuries after a collision with Brisbane Roar\u2019s Leia Varley in the round 13 Ninja A-League match, bringing her retirement forward.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement brings to an end a remarkable career that included A-League championships in 2012\/13 and 2018\/19 for Sydney FC, and 59 caps for the Matildas.<\/p>\n<p>A hard running midfielder, Logarzo Berryhill represented Australia at two Olympic Games, the 2018 Asian Cup and the 2019 World Cup.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was named player of the match in the famous 3-2 World Cup comeback win over Brazil in 2019, nicknamed the <a href=\"https:\/\/matildas.com.au\/video\/chloe-logarzo-reflects-miracle-montpellier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Miracle of Montpellier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I look back on the last decade, I feel nothing but extreme gratitude for the career I have had,\u201d Logarzo Berryhill <a href=\"https:\/\/wswanderersfc.com.au\/news\/chloe-logarzo-berryhill-announces-early-retirement-from-professional-football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said on the Wanderers website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough all the challenges, heartbreak, success and suffering, there have been moments of pure happiness and pride. I accomplished my childhood dream, and along the way I pushed myself past what I thought was possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of those moments would have been as special without the people and coaches who have made seemingly small snippets of my life feel monumental.
