LAS VEGAS: Ireland’s Callum Walsh defeated Mexican Carlos Ocampo on points to kick off Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing on Friday. <\/p>\n

It represented a low-profile launch of a promotion that has the potential to make a major impression on boxing in the US and its functioning. <\/p>\n

Walsh, who fought on UFC Fight Pass and later joined Zuffa Boxing, led by UFC president White, had a mission to go out there and deliver a knockout, but failed to get in rhythm against a stubborn Ocampo. <\/p>\n

It was a consistent game, although the Cork man was deemed to have been knocked down in the sixth round after what seemed to have been a loss of balance, but not a fall. <\/p>\n

The 30-year-old Mexican was never apparently dented, and Walsh made several landings with his left hook, which was undoubtedly the most effective one in his arsenal, during the 10 rounds. <\/p>\n

Reflecting on his victory, Walsh said that he only feels good when the opponent gets knocked out. <\/p>\n

“I’m never happy with the performance unless I get a knockout,” said Walsh, whose record is now 16-0.<\/p>\n

The three judges gave a big decision to Walsh by 98-90, 98-90, and 97-91. <\/p>\n
