One star recruit who has played a huge part in the Scorchers\u2019 most recent surge into a grand final, is New Zealand import Finn Allen.<\/p>\n
Speaking to foxsports.com.au\u2019s Catherine Healey and media at Optus Stadium on Friday evening, the explosive opener believes the hunger inside the group has been fuelled by the disappointment of missing out last summer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe knew there was a bitter feeling from last year not qualifying, so to do it this year is really good,\u201d Allen said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a squad we\u2019ve been pretty consistent throughout the tournament \u2026 (but) we probably still haven\u2019t played our best cricket in a complete game.\u201d<\/p>\n
That consistency Allen speaks of has been a hallmark of Perth\u2019s campaign, even if he believes there is another gear in their game.<\/p>\n
If the Scorchers are to deliver their absolute best on Sunday night against the Sydney Sixers, a packed-out Optus Stadium crowd will be treated to a show from Australia T20 captain Mitch Marsh, who Allen says has struck the perfect balance between intensity and enjoyment in his time back at the franchise.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn and off the field we\u2019ve had a lot of fun (with Marsh back) this tournament,\u201d Allen said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor Sunday, we\u2019re preparing like it\u2019s just another game. Having him around the group, he\u2019s a very calming influence for the boys. He\u2019s been great.\u201d<\/p>\n
Largely due to his involvement in Australia\u2019s Test side last summer, the 34-year-old all-rounder only played a single game for the Scorchers in BBL|14, and by extension, didn\u2019t feature at all in the two seasons prior.<\/p>\n
And while Marsh hasn\u2019t hit the heights of his absurd BBL|11 campaign \u2014 which saw him pummel 347 runs at an average of 57.83 and strike rate of 142.79 \u2014 he has shown glimpses of his match-winning best. <\/p>\n

A 102 off 58 balls against the Hurricanes was him at his brutal best, with an 88 against Adelaide at a similar strike rate was just as deserving of three figures.<\/p>\n
For Allen himself, this Australian summer has been a stark contrast to his up-and-down season in BBL|14, which saw him average just 18.10 opening the batting across 10 matches.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s just clarity for me, and being a bit more clear on my role,\u201d Allen explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving experience from last year and knowing what to expect a bit more (helps). Time before the tournament a bit more to think about my game plans and being a bit more settled in my technique as well. There\u2019s been a lot of work (on my game) since the last Big Bash through America.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the New Zealander\u2019s power at the top has been a major weapon, Allen was quick to highlight his squad\u2019s depth that entered the season with more questions than usual.<\/p>\n

The loss of Scorchers greats Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff to the Melbourne Renegades left greater uncertainty around their fast bowling cartel, and amplified by the news that speedster Lance Morris would miss the entire season with a lumbar bone stress injury.<\/p>\n
But as Adam Voges\u2019 side has proven time and time again, when one soldier falls or is out of touch, another steps up to the plate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there were a lot of questions around our bowling attack at the start of the tournament losing those guys (Tye and Behrendorff), and Lance as well,\u201d said Allen.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve said it from the start, it\u2019s a great opportunity for your younger guys to show what they can do.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouchy (Brody Couch) through the start of the tournament and then Mahli (Beardman) the whole way through has been outstanding, he\u2019s just gone from strength to strength. He\u2019s learnt a lot, you can tell he\u2019s a quality bowler. He\u2019s a really exciting one for the future as well as now.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoops (Cooper Connolly) has been incredible as well. All of our boys have contributed at key moments.\u201d<\/p>\n
Connolly and Beardman in particular have impressed this summer, with the former slowly becoming a common figure inside Australia\u2019s white-ball set up at just age 22.<\/p>\n
After two half-centuries early on in the tournament, the left-hander\u2019s batting has simmered. But what he hasn\u2019t given as much of lately at the crease, he\u2019s made up for with the ball.<\/p>\n
Connolly\u2019s left-arm orthodox has taken 15 wickets at an average of just 14 and economy of 6.56, and proven a lethal asset to Perth\u2019s bowling attack that never ceases to amaze with its depth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Connolly has been the most-improved bowler in the BBL, along with Mahli Beardman,\u201d former Australian fast bowler Brendon Julian told Fox Cricket\u2019s The Follow On podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cConnolly\u2019s bowling is nearly taking the situation of a (Glenn) Maxwell \u2026 I think he should be in the team, no matter what. Batting at six, four, five, eight \u2014 wherever it is.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut his bowling is really, really handy. A left-handed spinner in sub-continental conditions is always very good to take.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat Perth Scorchers squad is exceptional. You\u2019ve got Beardman who\u2019s bowled really well, Aaron Hardie is a power player in the middle order \u2026 I can\u2019t see too many teams get past that list, especially over there in Perth.\u201d<\/p>\n
That depth, paired with an intimate understanding of their home ground at Optus Stadium, has long been a quiet edge for the Scorchers, and it shapes as a significant factor again on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Perth have made a habit of squeezing teams on their home deck, with bounce rewarding good pace bowling and the big square boundaries giving opposition extra food for thought when taking on the likes of Beardman. <\/p>\n
Waiting for them in the final are the Sydney Sixers, a side who in some ways vastly contrast the Scorchers. Australian greats Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc have returned with great success after their Ashes dominance, and are led by soon-to-be-39-year-old Moises Henriques, a domestic cricket stalwart of the last two decades.<\/p>\n
