Health authorities are warning Sydneysiders to monitor closely for measles symptoms after another two cases of the highly contagious diseases were confirmed.<\/p>\n

One of the two new cases was acquired locally in Sydney after another known case recently returned from South-East Asia, NSW Health warned.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is currently an increased risk of measles in NSW, with four cases in the last week and 13 cases now confirmed since 1 December 2025. As people return from overseas holidays, it is expected that additional cases may be identified,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe recently confirmed cases visited many locations across Sydney while unknowingly infectious, including healthcare facilities. These locations do not pose an ongoing risk.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Leena Gupta, Director of Sydney Local Health District\u2019s Public Health Unit said people should monitor closely for symptoms.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf symptoms develop and you\u2019ve been at one of the locations at the time listed on the website, see your doctor or health service, including an emergency department. Call ahead to let them know that you may have come into contact with measles so you don\u2019t spend time in waiting rooms with other patients,\u201d Dr Gupta said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSymptoms to watch out for include fever, runny nose, sore eyes and a cough, usually followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash that spreads from the head to the rest of the body.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Gupta also reminded Sydney residents of the importance of keeping up to date with their vaccinations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe measles vaccine can prevent the disease even after exposure, if given early enough,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone born after 1965 needs to ensure they have had two doses of measles vaccine. This is especially important before overseas travel, as measles outbreaks are occurring in several regions of the world at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Confirmed measles case ran with Centennial Parkrun<\/p>\n

It comes after a popular Sydney parkrun is also under an urgent health alert, after a confirmed case of measles attended the run last Saturday.<\/p>\n

Centennial Parkrun attached the letter on their Facebook community page on Tuesday, from the Sydney Local Health District which stated a person with measles ran with the group.<\/p>\n

\u201cA person infectious with measles attended parkrun from 7-8:30am on 17\/1\/26,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n

It is unknown whether the confirmed case who attended the Centennial park run is connected to the case which visited several sites around western greater Sydney.<\/p>\n
