Photo: ACT Policing.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE, 11:35 am \u2013 ACT Policing has confirmed the woman killed in a single-vehicle crash in O\u2019Malley was the passenger of the car involved.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Inspector Elizabeth Swain said police had received \u201cnumerous\u201d calls to Triple Zero in relation to the crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time of the collision, a number of members of the public stopped to help the driver and the passenger, and have provided police with a number of accounts of what has happened,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese instances are distressing for everyone involved \u2026 that\u2019s why it\u2019s so impressive that people stopped to help in these circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Det Insp Swain would not disclose further details about the injuries sustained by the driver, just that he was taken to Canberra Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The man and woman were known to each other.<\/p>\n<p>Given more motorists are expected to be travelling this Australia Day long weekend, as well as returning from summer holidays, Det Insp Swain urged everyone to watch their speed, fatigue, distractions and possible impairments such as alcohol and drugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo everything that you can to keep yourself and everyone safe on the roads,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tragic that we\u2019ve [already] had three deaths in January, and [ACT Policing] will do everything that we can \u2026 to try and prevent anymore fatalities in the ACT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, 25 January, 10am \u2013 A woman has died after a grey SUV crashed into a tree in O\u2019Malley.<\/p>\n<p>Police and emergency services were called to Yamba Drive, near the intersection with Mawson Drive, at about 12:50 pm on Saturday (24 January).<\/p>\n<p>A 41-year-old woman was declared deceased at the scene and a 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation is underway with ACT Policing urging anyone who saw the crash, or has relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crimestoppersact.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Crime Stoppers<\/a> by calling 1800 333 000, quoting reference 8284050.<\/p>\n<p>The woman is the third person to die on Canberra\u2019s roads this year.<\/p>\n<p>More to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police are investigating all circumstances that led to the single-vehicle crash on Yamba Drive in O\u2019Malley.
