Broncos star Ben Hunt has revealed he has pondered a potential call to hang up the boots amid another tough pre-season.<\/p>\n

Hunt says coach Michael Maguire has again put his players through the ringer this pre-season as the Broncos prepare to defend their title. <\/p>\n

The veteran playmaker is under contract for 2026 but beyond that, his future is up in the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s still pretty tough, it really is,\u201d Hunt told Code Sports.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt obviously worked for us last year and I don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to change anything so we\u2019re just working hard and trying to get better on what we did last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, in pre-season, you\u2019re more leaning towards retiring. But you get into the season and I just love being in this game and being around your teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I still feel like I\u2019m playing well and my body\u2019s all right, then I want to play on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll just take it week-to-week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to Ezra Mam\u2019s suspension and injuries to Mam and Adam Reynolds, Hunt started all but four games in the halves last season but he is preparing for a full time switch to hooker.<\/p>\n

Cory Paix did a commendable job at No. 9 in 2025 but is set to lose his starting spot to Hunt, who has performed strongly at hooker for Queensland and Australia. <\/p>\n

It sets up a tantalising spine consisting of Reece Walsh, Reynolds, Mam and Hunt.<\/p>\n

Hunt says his role change had led to a tougher pre-season than last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a lot different for me compared to last pre-season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI trained the whole last pre-season in the halves and when you\u2019re in the middle (hooker) you do a lot more work, a lot of tackling and things like that.<\/p>\n
