{"id":437319,"date":"2026-01-25T22:06:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T22:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/437319\/"},"modified":"2026-01-25T22:06:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T22:06:10","slug":"latest-nba-nhl-cbb-schedule-adjustments-postponements-amid-major-winter-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/437319\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest NBA, NHL, CBB, Schedule Adjustments, Postponements Amid Major Winter Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">A winter storm has impacted a large portion of the country this weekend and forced the NBA, NHL and college basketball to make adjustments to their schedules. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The NBA <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheSteinLine\/status\/2015487874729189656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">announced<\/a> that the Denver Nuggets vs. Memphis Grizzlies game in Memphis that was scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET has been postponed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The NBA previously <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/hornets\/news\/hornets-start-time-against-washington-on-saturday-changed-to-12-pm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">announced<\/a> that Saturday&#8217;s game between the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina would begin at 12 p.m. ET after being originally scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The Nashville Predators <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PredsNHL\/status\/2014818003565658198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">announced<\/a> that their game against Utah on Saturday was moved up two hours to 1:30 p.m. ET ahead of the storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The ACC moved up the start times for three games on Saturday, including No. 5 Duke hosting Wake Forest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Here are some of other notable start times that were impacted, per the <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/47706391\/winter-storm-forces-nba-acc-men-uconn-women-reschedule-events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Associated Press<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The AP report also notes that the Sun Belt conference preemptively adjusted its schedule for games from Thursday through Saturday, while the American conference moved some men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s basketball games up to Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Rice basketball effectively hosted back-to-back games at Tudor Fieldhouse on Saturday, as the women&#8217;s mathcup against Tulane tipped off at 1 p.m. ET and the men&#8217;s game against Tulsa at 3:30 p.m. ET. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The Richmond-George Mason women&#8217;s game was played on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET with fans <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/richmondspiders.com\/news\/2026\/1\/22\/womens-basketball-at-george-mason-moved-to-11-am-sunday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">not permitted<\/a> to attend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Per <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/storms\/winter\/news\/2026-01-23-winter-storm-fern-historic-ice-snow-forecast-south-northeast-midwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Weather.com<\/a>, the &#8220;historic&#8221; storm is tracking to begin in the southern part of the U.S., ranging as far west as Arizona, and moving east with &#8220;significant snow and\/or ice&#8221; expected to impact at least 34 states and more than 220 million people. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Ice accumulations could exceed one-quarter of an inch, with 10 states between Texas and Virginia likely to be the most significantly impacted. This includes cities such as Nashville, Greenville-Spartanburg, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham and Richmond. The combination of ice and high winds could lead to extended power outages in those areas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The area between New Mexico and New York will be under a winter storm warning.
