Leicester City has parted ways with manager Marti Cifuentes, effective immediately, just six months after he stepped into the role and hours after the team\u2019s chairman appeared to back him in. <\/p>\n

The decision was made after Leicester\u2019s 2-1 loss to Oxford United in the Championship as the Foxes fell to 14th on the table. <\/p>\n

Andy King, the club\u2019s former Premier League-winning midfielder and first-team coach, will take charge of the squad until it appoints a permanent manager.<\/p>\n

Cifuentes, 43 took over from Ruud van Nistelrooy in July on a three-year deal after the team\u2019s relegation from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been a difficult decision and not one I have taken lightly. I would like to thank Marti for the total commitment he has shown during his time at Leicester City. He gave everything to the role and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our targets,\u201d Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, I believe this is the right step at this time to improve performances and results, and to act in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club. Mart\u00ed leaves with our thanks and our best wishes for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

It bizarrely comes just hours after Srivaddhanaprabha seemingly backed in Cifuentes.<\/p>\n

In a prerecorded interview with BBC Radio Leicester that came out after Cifuentes was dismissed, Srivaddhanaprabha curiously suggested the Spaniard \u201cneeds time\u201d still in the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think when we are trying to find a new manager or players, we have a panel to make sure we are seeing or finding the right one,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we are seeing that he is doing well, he should be doing well, but he needs time to do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we need to help him also\u2026but we have to help him quick and find a solution really quick.\u201d <\/p>\n

Asked directly if Cifuentes could turn things around, the Leicester chairman responded: \u201cI hope to talk and we will assess with him with the whole club together.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then we hope that we can find a solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The loss to Oxford United meant Leiecester have won just two of its past eight league games.<\/p>\n
