A grieving mum is demanding answers after her son was eaten by an illegal XL Bully in a savage attack.<\/p>\n

Scott Samson, 38, was found dead in a blood-soaked living room in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire after the dog he was watching for a friend brutally attacked him in March 2025.<\/p>\n

The four-year-old XL Bully, the largest variant of the American Bully, named Mitch, had caused so much damage to Mr Samson\u2019s body that a post-mortem exam was unable to determine whether he died as a result of the viscous attack or if he died of natural causes before the dog ate him.<\/p>\n

The family of Mr Samson have been left without answers over the cause of death, with cops initially telling his mother, 60-year-old Morag Samson, that he had died of an accidental drug overdose.<\/p>\n

This however, turned out to be inconclusive, with police saying it\u2019s possible he was mauled to death.<\/p>\n

Ms Samson\u2019s pain only continued when it was revealed that no one would be prosecuted over the attack, despite investigators finding out the dog was an unregistered, illegal XL Bully.<\/p>\n

On top of this, the dog is being kept at one of three kennels in Scotland that house seized XL Bullies at a cost of thousands to taxpayers.<\/p>\n

Ms Samson told The Sunday Mail<\/a>: \u201cThis XL Bully ate my son. This evil monster dog ate his face, his throat, his tongue and other parts of his body.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd nearly a year on from his death, I\u2019m told the dog is being \u2018well cared for\u2019 by police in kennels.\u201d<\/p>\n

The horrific attack left Mr Samson so disfigured that his family were forced to have a closed coffin funeral.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told by the undertaker I wouldn\u2019t be able to see him and would need a closed coffin,\u201d Ms Samson said. \u201cI didn\u2019t even get to give my son a final kiss or a cuddle to say goodbye and I didn\u2019t even know why.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is this devil dog still alive and no-one is being held accountable? Why are they protecting the dog that ate my son?\u201d<\/p>\n

The heartbroken mother said that police didn\u2019t tell her the dog was behind the brutal attack, and she said her final goodbye to her son at his funeral in April without knowing the truth.<\/p>\n

The horrific details only emerged in the post-mortem report issued weeks later.<\/p>\n

Ms Samson claims the dog was left in the room with her son\u2019s remains for 13 hours after dog catchers couldn\u2019t get the XL Bully out of the home.<\/p>\n

Pathologists told the distraught mum that Mr Samson\u2019s eyes were all that was left of his face.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo think they left my son lying in a blood soaked room, locked up with that dog for hours after what it had done to him makes me feel sick\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

The dog belongs to 37-year-old Neal Stark from Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, who was on holiday at the time.<\/p>\n
