My Chemical Romance<\/a>\u00a0have\u00a0got\u00a0fans talking by posting a cryptic message on social media, without further explanation.<\/p>\n

Earlier today (January 25), the band shared a post on their Instagram account, with a caption that simply read: \u201cA GAME YOU WILL PLAY\u201d. It was also posted to guitarist Frank Iero<\/a>\u2019s page.<\/p>\n

Alongside it, there is a flickering image of the\u00a0word \u201dPHANTOM\u201d in neon green letters, but the clip does not\u00a0contain\u00a0music or any other sounds.<\/p>\n

The band are playing their first show of 2026 tonight in Lima, Peru,\u00a0having had to cancel their planned tour opener in Bogot\u00e1 last week<\/a> due to circumstances beyond their control. This post, however, does not appear to reference the ongoing \u2018The Black Parade\u2019 tour, nor is it in keeping with the aesthetic design of their recent activity.<\/p>\n

MCR fans have been eagerly\u00a0awaiting\u00a0any possible\u00a0indication\u00a0of\u00a0new music\u00a0for a long time. Their last release was\u00a0the one-off single \u2018The Foundations Of Decay\u2019 in 2022<\/a>, which itself was their first new material in eight years.<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s last studio album\u00a0was 2010\u2019s \u2018Danger Days<\/a>\u2019,\u00a0although they did enter recording sessions for\u00a0a fifth album in 2011<\/a>, but\u00a0that\u00a0never\u00a0materialised\u00a0and\u00a0the band separated in 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since they announced their return in 2019<\/a>, there have been occasional teases that have excited fans, such as in 2023,\u00a0when rumours of a new album\u00a0had to be\u00a0debunked<\/a>\u00a0after a cryptic post from an associate of the band.<\/p>\n

Just last September,\u00a0fans thought they had\u00a0picked\u00a0up on\u00a0clues about\u00a0new music<\/a>\u00a0from an on-stage prop clock that was ticking down to December 12, but that date passed without any news.<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0spoke to Iero in 2025 about the possibility of new MCR music<\/a>. \u201cNo, sorry,\u201d he replied. \u201cWhen that stuff \u2013 if that stuff were to happen, we will tell you. We will tell you in the way we want to tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Their current tour arrives in the UK with a show at Liverpool\u2019s Anfield Stadium on June 30<\/a>,\u00a0before a date in Glasgow and\u00a0trio\u00a0of huge shows at London\u2019s Wembley Stadium\u00a0on July 8, 10 and 11. They have also announced the huge list of support acts for the tour<\/a>, which includes the likes of\u00a0Echo & The Bunnymen<\/a>,\u00a0Interpol<\/a>,\u00a0Joan Jett<\/a>,\u00a0Skunk Anansie<\/a>,\u00a0Sunny Day Real Estate<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mogwai<\/a>.<\/p>\n
