(ABC News: Tara Cassidy)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Sally Hayes lives in a houseboat on the river.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">She said many of those affected had nowhere else to go and no way of paying to crane, relocate or store the boats elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are people who&#8217;ve lived on this river for 35 years,&#8221;  she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;But more recently, with the homelessness crisis really exploding, there&#8217;s been a lot of people who&#8217;ve moved onto boats simply because they can&#8217;t afford to live anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;And now what we&#8217;ve got is MSQ, backed by council, forcing these people off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;A lot of homeless in rich little town&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Noosa River resident Bradley McMahon has lived in the area on and off for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said the changes also failed to consider that many of the boats were not equipped to move to other waters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Man with dog in tinnie on river.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/97ed1938e438d8e4fba227ee489006e3.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Bradley McMahon and his dog head back to their houseboat home on the Noosa River.\u00a0 (ABC News: Tara Cassidy)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;They&#8217;re only built for rivers, lakes and estuaries,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;They seem to forget that we have at the entrance to the river one of the most dangerous bar crossings in the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;So, if they force people to then crane their vessels [out], that&#8217;s going to force them into financial hardship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;This is affecting people&#8217;s lives.
