A section of floor has caved-in at Queensland’s only vaccine warehouse, causing statewide delays to childhood vaccination schedules.<\/p>\n

Photos obtained by 612 ABC Radio Brisbane shows part of the loading bay has collapsed and slid down a retaining wall at the Toll warehouse in Richlands.<\/p>\n

A Toll spokesperson said the “retaining wall incident” happened in late December 2025, prompting them to close out of safety concerns.<\/p>\n

The warehouse was the sole distribution centre for Queensland Health, and contained the department’s entire stockpile of vaccines.<\/p>\n

The $10 million facility was opened in 2023 as a “cutting edge” healthcare distribution centre.<\/p>\n

Documents obtained by 612 ABC show vaccines are now being delivered to Queensland clinics from Victoria using coolers.<\/p>\n

A Queensland Health spokesperson said the vaccines in the Toll warehouse remained safely refrigerated, although inaccessible for the time being.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said clinics should not be concerned about access to vaccine stock.<\/p>\n

“Toll has temporarily relocated operations to support the Queensland vaccine program from a site in Victoria and there is currently no anticipated additional cost to taxpayers,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Brisbane general practitioner Maria Boulton said the department’s claims that there was “sufficient vaccine stock” did not reflect the reality on the ground for GPs.<\/p>\n

The former Australian Medical Association Queensland president said her clinic was still awaiting orders for several childhood vaccines.<\/p>\n

Dr Boulton said this now included vaccines for six-week-olds, four-month-olds, and six-month-olds through the National Immunisation Program.<\/p>\n

Dr Boulton said this meant Queensland babies were not getting their scheduled shots at a critical part of their early childhood development.<\/p>\n

“It’s very, very important to have those vaccines on time, and it’s upsetting and distressful to parents when those vaccines are not available,” Dr Boulton said.<\/p>\n

“We rely on those orders we place every fortnight, and we rely on those vaccines to come in when we place an order.”<\/p>\n

Dr Boulton said there were also shortages for meningococcal B and flu shots, particularly for the over 65s.<\/p>\n

The Toll closure has also disrupted supply to private medical suppliers that used the warehouse, such as the biotechnology company CSL.<\/p>\n

A CSL spokesperson said they had since found alternative arrangements.<\/p>\n

“The supply of CSL products to healthcare professionals and patients hasn’t been impacted as we have been able to supply from within our network,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

A Toll spokesperson said they were working to minimise disruption to the supply chain.<\/p>\n

“We are working closely with our customers to establish interim distribution arrangements and continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate the patience of healthcare providers and the community during this time.”<\/p>\n
