{"id":441773,"date":"2026-01-28T00:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/441773\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T00:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:29:09","slug":"tga-issues-fake-botox-warning-over-significant-health-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/441773\/","title":{"rendered":"TGA issues fake Botox warning over &#8216;significant&#8217; health risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australians have been issued a renewed warning about counterfeit vials of Botox that continue to appear in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The counterfeit vials were packaged to appear as genuine Botox products, but parent company AbbVie has confirmed the products, with batch number C8478C4, are not genuine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tga.gov.au\/safety\/safety-monitoring-and-information\/safety-alerts\/continuing-imports-counterfeit-botox-vials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"the Therapeutic Goods Administration says\">the Therapeutic Goods Administration says<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Counterfeit products have not been assessed by us for quality, safety or efficacy,&#8221; the TGA said in its latest warning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/fdd7304f-ad66-45b3-a24f-2bdc4dcdf9a7.png\"   alt=\"Botox\"\/>The TGA has issued another warning over counterfeit Botox products being sold into Australia. (TGA)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These products pose a significant public health and safety risk and should not be used.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The TGA last issued a warning over the Botox fakes in July last year.<\/p>\n<p>However, the medical product watchdog said people continued to buy the counterfeit vials from an overseas \ufeffwebsite and not from an Australian pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Manufacturers of counterfeit goods are producing products that may appear legitimate,&#8221; the warning read.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/db0a0010-fb30-4307-a33d-a08e7dbe5279.png\"   alt=\"Botox\"\/>The product poses &#8220;health risks&#8221;.
