After three decades in radio \u2013 and a brief career shift into bus driving \u2013 former WSFM Content Director Mike Byrne<\/a> is returning to the industry as Super Radio Network\u2019s new Network Content Director.<\/p>\n

After 30 years in radio, Byrne had been driving buses following his redundancy from the Australian Radio Network (ARN) in Sydney late last year. He is currently the coach-captain for Port Stephens Coaches.<\/p>\n

Now, he will re-enter radio in early February, based in Newcastle, where he will oversee Super Radio Network\u2019s local content offering and contribute to the broader network strategy.<\/p>\n

Super Radio Network chief executive Rhys Holleran said Byrne\u2019s appointment strengthens the group\u2019s focus on local content.<\/p>\n

\u201cMike is one of the most respected content leaders in the industry, particularly in Newcastle, where his reputation speaks for itself,\u201d Holleran said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe brings a proven track record across Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle, and a deep understanding of how strong local content connects with audiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to welcome Mike into this key leadership role as we continue to lift our content offering across the Network.\u201d<\/p>\n

Byrne said the role brings him back to both radio and his hometown.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to be back in my hometown of Newcastle doing the job I love,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis network is on the move and an exciting place to be, and I\u2019m looking forward to being part of the Super Radio Network team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peter Schmidt<\/p>\n

Technology leadership added<\/p>\n

Super Radio Network has also appointed Peter Schmidt as Group Technology Manager, expanding its leadership team across digital and operational systems.<\/p>\n

Holleran said Schmidt\u2019s appointment reflects a focus on technology across the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter brings a wealth of experience, including a strong background in commercial radio, and his appointment is an important step in strengthening our technology capability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis role touches every part of the business, from what we deliver to listeners to how we operate day to day, and Peter will be a key part of our leadership structure as we continue to evolve and improve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schmidt said he was looking forward to returning to the sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to be coming back to radio,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a terrific business, and I\u2019m looking forward to contributing to Super Radio Network\u2019s continued success.\u201d<\/p>\n

A network in transition<\/p>\n

Super Radio Network operates 45 stations across New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, making it the largest privately owned commercial radio group in Australia.<\/p>\n

The appointments come as the company continues to build out its senior leadership following Holleran\u2019s appointment as CEO in October 2025 and Joan Warner\u2019s<\/a> appointment as Chair in August 2025.<\/p>\n

Byrne\u2019s arrival adds senior content leadership to that structure, alongside Schmidt\u2019s technology remit, as the network looks to strengthen both programming and operations across its regional footprint.<\/p>\n
