{"id":445253,"date":"2026-01-29T13:50:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T13:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/445253\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T13:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T13:50:15","slug":"neil-crompton-petition-trending-towards-mark-larkham-esque-numbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/445253\/","title":{"rendered":"Neil Crompton petition trending towards Mark Larkham-esque numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE tidal wave of support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-203-Neil-Crompton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neil Crompton<\/a>\u2019s reinstatement to the Supercars broadcast is trending towards the numbers which saved Mark Larkham six years ago.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/save-crompo-voice-of-sc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Save Crompo\u2019 online petition hosted on change.org<\/a> has attracted upwards of 18,300 signatures since being launched nine days ago on January 20.<\/p>\n<p>With a steady stream of supporters continuing to trickle in, that averages out to be circa 2000 new signatures a day, if treated as a linear rate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The campaign is being run by Mark Doust, who was also the man behind the ultimately successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/supercars-australia-save-larko-2020\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Save Larko\u2019<\/a> mission.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, Doust started a change.org campaign on December 11, 2020 \u2013 i.e. the same day that Larkham\u2019s axing was confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Six weeks later, come January 22 of the new year, Supercars backflipped with the announcement of Larkham\u2019s reappointment.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 29,732 supporters joined the \u2018Save Larko\u2019 cause.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/RGP-2024-NED-Whisky-Tasmania-SS-_25A0284-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-160114\"  \/>Mark Larkham. Pic: Ross Gibb<\/p>\n<p>Supercars has been decidedly quiet on the topic of its television talent line-up for season 2026, which marks the first year of its new broadcast deal with Foxtel and Seven.<\/p>\n<p>Crompton\u2019s long-time co-commentator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-90-Mark-Skaife\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Skaife<\/a> is also tipped to be moved on as part of an effort to re-energise the product.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-8-Garth-Tander\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garth Tander<\/a>, who retired from co-driving after claiming his sixth Bathurst 1000 win last year, is thought to be at the centre of 2026 plans.
