\n\tWhen Travis Scott<\/a> thinks back on all the music that has helped shape his life, he quite literally thinks about Kid Cudi\u2019s \u201cSoundtrack 2 My Life.\u201d The rapper and Rolling Stone cover star <\/a>sat down to explore the music that has left the most meaningful impressions on him for Rolling Stone\u2018s My Life in 10 Songs\u00a0video series, citing Kudi, Bj\u00f6rk\u2019s Volta track \u201cWanderlust,\u201d Fun\u2019s soaring \u201cWe Are Young,\u201d and more. <\/p>\n

\n\tScott begins his list with Aphex Twin\u2019s \u201cCow Cud Is a Twin,\u201d which he stumbled upon while watching Chris Cunningham videos (who has directed videos for the British musician) with a friend from school who listened to garage and punk music. Next, Scott recalls how the music video for \u201cWanderlust\u201d changed his life, saying, \u201cIt ruined my day in a good way. Nothing got done. I was like, What the fuck?\u201d While he knew of Bj\u00f6rk, he credits the song for making him a fan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c33 God\u201d by Bon Iver also makes the cut, and Scott calls frontman Justin Vernon, who has inspired him since he was a kid, \u201cone of the greatest artists to ever live.\u201d The rapper points out that Vernon worked on Utopia, which debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to dive in on Utopia,\u201d advises Scott. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of my favorite people that I work with or inspire me since day one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tScott also points to Fun\u2019s \u201cWe Are Young,\u201d reflecting, \u201cI feel like everybody heard it at the same time. \u2026 I think that song is the pinnacle of everyone\u2019s soul \u2014 the beat, everything, is how everyone feels as soon as the sun goes down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tScott then moves to \u201cRetrograde\u201d by James Blake, who was one of the first people he met in L.A. \u201cEverything he does, from his live performances, the way he makes music, his beats, vocals, everything \u2014 dude is a genius,’\u201d states Scott.<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore introducing his next track choice, Scott chuckles and says, \u201cCan\u2019t Tell Me Nothing\u201d by Kanye West. \u201cThat song embodies every young, old, full-of-spirit person that you know got something they want to go for,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe beginning to the final part of \u201cSoundtrack 2 My Life\u201d left such a lasting mark on Scott that by the time the song ended, he felt like he and Cudi \u201cwere like brothers.\u201d Scott, who was in high school when he first heard the track, says seeing audiences resonate with Cudi\u2019s music gave him the confidence to tell his own narrative. \u201cI was like, OK, people will hopefully understand what I got \u2014\u00a0the story I gotta tell,\u201d Scott recalls thinking at the time. Scott was also drawn to Portishead\u2019s \u201cWestern Eyes,\u201d which prompted him to question \u201cwhy rappers didn\u2019t rap on that type of rap.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSecond to last on the list, Scott naturally embraces \u201cImpossible\u201d off his 2015 debut Rodeo, likening the song to ecstasy and DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) \u2014 though not the drug, just the feeling that people chase. \u201cWhen I hear that shit, it\u2019s like, that\u2019s the release I get,\u201d says Scott.<\/p>\n
