{"id":447549,"date":"2026-01-30T14:54:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T14:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/447549\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T14:54:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T14:54:20","slug":"vale-walter-benny-lew-fatt-remembering-an-afl-nt-icon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/447549\/","title":{"rendered":"Vale Walter &#8220;Benny&#8221; Lew Fatt: Remembering an AFL NT icon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Family, friends and the AFL faithful around the NT are remembering the life and legacy of Walter &#8220;Benny&#8221; Lew Fatt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Benny was a stalwart of the Nightcliff Tigers and played a central role in their premierships in the 1956\/57, 1960\/61 and 1964\/65 seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was inducted into the AFLNT Hall of Fame in 2012 and his services to the community were recognised with an Order of Australia Medal in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Nightcliff Tigers President Mark Dodge remembers Benny as, &#8220;a smile larger than life. He was the patriarch of the [Nightcliff Tiger] Family&#8230;.That big solid handshake, the glint in the eye..<\/p>\n<p>One of my fondest memories was in the 2018\/19 premiership year, the drought breaker. He was able to present that cup to our team captain Nathan Brown.
