<\/p>\nFor most martial arts, jiu-jitsu included, a practitioner can be presented with the belt at any time. For some it comes after a competition. Rohovich received his during training and had a feeling it was coming. <\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody keeps talking about it, how I should be\u00a0black\u00a0belt and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0\u2018all black belt level and this and that\u2019, and I heard Lucien\u00a0mention\u00a0it once before, too. He said something to me that made me suspicious of getting the black belt. I\u2019m\u00a0glad\u00a0it finally happened.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rohovich didn\u2019t join the sport until he was 26 years old. Not only has he used jiu-jitsu in his MMA career, he said the lessons he has learned through the discipline of the sport helped him get his life under control. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt definitely was a big turning point. It created\u00a0discipline and it created a sense of purpose. It made\u00a0me have\u00a0goals. Since then I\u2019ve\u00a0always wanted to\u00a0accomplish\u00a0my goals. It\u00a0created a massive\u00a0discipline. I learned who I was on the mats. I learned a lot about\u00a0who\u00a0I really am.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rohovich has been trained by Lucien Phillips. Phillips and his coach, Jeff Wiley in Calgary, both presented the Prince Albert athlete with his black belt. <\/p>\n
There\u2019s a quote displayed on the wall at North Wake gym: \u2018Destination Black\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I first started jiu-jitsu, I knew that one day I wanted to be a black belt, and ever since\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0seen that\u00a0on\u00a0the gym wall, I just would look at it every day and just push myself, keep training and keep it up. One day\u00a0I\u2019ll be a black belt, and now here I am.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last time he competed, Rohovich lost in a bout he accepted on just six days notice, but he\u2019s looking forward to stepping back on the mat- this time with his black belt. <\/p>\n
