On the feet it was close, but Aldo outstruck Mendes and eventually got his hand raised in front of the Rio crowd.

This marked Aldo’s seventh successful UFC title defence, and his ninth in a row if you include his WEC championship reign.

UFC president Dana White called the match “the greatest featherweight fight” he’d ever seen.

Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic, (2019)

The heavyweight division’s stakes couldn’t have been higher at UFC 241, where former champ Stipe Miocic squared off with Daniel Cormier for a rematch of their epic 2018 showdown.

Their first fight saw Cormier claim the title in a fourth-round knockout (and become a double champ), ending Miocic’s then-record streak of successful heavyweight defences.

After weathering a brutal storm for the opening rounds, Miocic stormed back into the fight late with punishing body shots to earn an incredible fourth-round KO. This fight exceeded every expectation.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – AUGUST 15: In this handout image provided by UFC, Stipe Miocic (R) punches Daniel Cormier in their UFC heavyweight championship bout during the UFC 252 event at UFC APEX on August 15, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He mixed in leg kicks, picked his shots and managed the pace early, knowing he couldn’t afford to gas-out.

He knocked down Diaz three times, but couldn’t put him away. Diaz, as always, soaked it up, talked plenty of trash and kept marching forward, trying to turn the bout into a streetfight.

Momentum swung hard in this fight with Diaz surging late, and McGregor digging deep when he needed to. When it was over, McGregor took a tight majority decision.

LAS VEGAS, NV – AUGUST 20: Conor McGregor (R) punches Nate Diaz during their welterweight rematch at the UFC 202 event at T-Mobile Arena on August 20, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Less than two years later, with Lawler now the welterweight champ, they clashed again in a brutal, blood-soaked battle.

By the fifth round of this fight, it was just about survival. Lawler found another gear and somehow walked out still champion. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t technical perfection – it was incredible.

Volk: “I cannot wait to put on a show!” | 02:45

Despite not winning, McDonald described the fight as “the greatest moment of my life” saying the fight “showed me who I was”.

Dana White described it as “an absolute war”.

The fight was inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame in 2023.

This Sunday at UFC 325, Alex “The Great” Volkanovski steps back into the Octagon for a rematch with…

[2
43,44,85,41,39,42,40
0":"post-448538","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-headlines","8":"tag-headlines","9":"tag-news","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-top-news","12":"tag-top-stories","13":"tag-topnews","14":"tag-topstories
["GET
