England white-ball captain Harry Brook says he lied that he was alone in an altercation \u200cwith a nightclub bouncer in New Zealand late last year to protect his teammates and that he is learning from that incident.<\/p>\n

A Daily Telegraph report on \u2060January 8 said Brook was struck by a nightclub bouncer after being denied entry to the venue on October 31. England was playing in New Zealand \u200bat the time.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old subsequently was fined $60,000 and apologised for his behaviour<\/a>, which he felt “brought embarrassment” to him and his team.<\/p>\n

Harry Brook has apologised after a scuffle with a bouncer at a New Zealand nightclub shortly before the Ashes.<\/p>\n

In \u200ca statement issued on \u200cFriday, Brook acknowledged \u200che was not the only English player at the scene.<\/p>\n

“I accept responsibility for my actions in Wellington and acknowledge that others were present that evening,” said the 26-year-old, who is \u200bcurrently \u2060leading England in a Twenty20 series in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

“I regret my previous comments and my intention was to protect my teammates from being drawn into a situation that \u200carose as a result of my own decisions.<\/p>\n

“I have apologised and \u200bwill continue to reflect on the matter. This has been a challenging period in my career, but \u200bone \u200dfrom which I \u2060am learning.<\/p>\n

“I recognise that I have more to learn regarding the off-field responsibilities that come with leadership and captaincy.”<\/p>\n

Brook led England to victory in the one-day series in \u200cSri Lanka and they are 1-0 ahead in the subsequent T20 series against their \u2060hosts.<\/p>\n

Brook and \u200chis team will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Nepal in Mumbai on February 8.<\/p>\n
