Tens of thousands of fans are pumped up as Ed Sheeran is just hours away from performing at a sold-out Optus Stadium.<\/p>\n

His Perth show comes after he kicked off his tour in New Zealand performing in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch earlier this month.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been three years since Sheeran was last in Perth, and his return was well and truly celebrated by more than 55,000 Ed Heads.<\/p>\n

Fans were lining up from 10am in the scorching heat in an effort to get the best view of the superstar.<\/p>\n

There were thousands decked out in merch as they piled into the stadium for the huge show.<\/p>\n

Jorja Draper and Alexis Triplett went to multiple stores to find red wigs to dress up like Sheeran.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been waiting here since 3.30pm,\u201d Ms Draper said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlexis and I, we\u2019re so excited, it\u2019s just a once in a lifetime dream that we get to see him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our first time seeing him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jazmin Charles printed her own shirt of Ed Sheeran for the event.<\/p>\n

She came with her best friends Billie Jones and Stephanie Cullen.<\/p>\n

\u201cBest friends and live music is a core memory unlocked,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came for Ed but stayed for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Campbell Darr was working the merchandise tent, which had been open since 11.30am.<\/p>\n

He said it had been a non-stop line since they opened.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the fans have been lovely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has been loving the merch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been some very dedicated fans and we\u2019ve had some people buy one of everything in the range.\u201d<\/p>\n

Optus Stadium chief executive Mike McKenna said Sheeran\u2019s Loop tour shows were set to be among the most anticipated live events of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cEd shares a special connection with Australia and Perth, with a history that\u2019s particularly meaningful for Optus Stadium,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis two March 2018 performances not only made history as the very first concerts held at Optus Stadium but also marked his first-ever stadium show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose first two shows sold out and set records and his performance on March 12, 2023 \u2014 the final stop of the Australian leg of his last tour \u2014 drew a crowd of 73,092, setting a record for the biggest ticketed event in WA history.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his absence from Australia, Sheeran announced his eighth studio album Play in February last year with song Azizam the first track fans heard before the album\u2019s release in September.<\/p>\n

He set off on his Loop tour three months later.<\/p>\n

Sheeran showed off his ripped abs in December after losing 14kg, gracing the front cover of Men\u2019s Health UK.<\/p>\n

He told the publication he cut back on alcohol in order \u201cto be a responsible dad\u201d to his daughters, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, whom he shares with wife Cherry Seaborn and to \u201cfeel and look good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Time magazine last year listed him as one of the world\u2019s 100 most influential people.<\/p>\n
