Join now and get your first month for just $1.<\/p>\n<p>Koepka made the cut in his first event since rejoining the PGA Tour, but won\u2019t be challenging the winner as he\u2019s in a tie for 61st at the conclusion of Round 3. <\/p>\n<p><img class=\"i-amphtml-fill-content i-amphtml-replaced-content\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768365730_454_poster-fallback.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>At -2, he\u2019s 19 shots behind runaway leader Justin Rose (-21), who fired seven birdies in another dominant display on Torrey Pines\u2019 formidable South Course on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The 45-year-old got off to a blistering start and held his nerve on Torrey\u2019s testing back nine to build a 54-holetotal of 21-under par 195. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought that was the round of the week from tee to green anyway,\u201d said Rose, whose 12 US tour titles include a 2019 triumph at Torrey. <\/p>\n<p>He led by as eight shots and finished the day six strokes in front of American Joel Dahmen, who had five birdies and a bogeyin his 68 for 201. <\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Ryo Hisatsune and South Korean Kim Si-woo shared third on 203, Hisatsune posting a 68 and Kim a 69.<\/p>\n<p>While Koepka won\u2019t be picking up a fairytale winners\u2019 cheque in his Tour return, he provided the day\u2019s highlight when he hit a six iron off a cart path and through the trees to within ten feet of the hole. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh my goodness, sparks are flying,\u201d broadcaster Jim Nantz reacted. <\/p>\n<p>Koepka, one of the highest-profile players to jump to the divisive LIV league, announced in December he would leave the Saudi-backed circuit, and his return to the PGA Tour was facilitated by a new program for returning players that includes limitations on eligibility for some top events as well as financial penalties. <\/p>\n<p>The US star again drew warm, supportive galleries, but his struggles on the greens included a double bogey at his second hole, the 11th, where he three-putted from four feet. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just miss a few and you\u2019ve got zero confidence,\u201d Koepka said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just going to chalk it up to just a bad day, but I\u2019m happy with everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a candid chat post-round on the CBS broadcast, Koepka admitted he didn\u2019t know how the crowd would acknowledge him in his return to the Tour. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what I expected but this is beyond what I could\u2019ve dreamed of. It\u2019s (the response from the fans) has been overwhelming,\u201d Koepka said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was nervous.
