Bruce \u201cShu Shu\u201d Carrington made a statement to end his fight with Carlos Castro, scoring a ninth round knockout on a combination that featured a series of right hands, winning the vacant WBC featherweight title.<\/p>\n
Carrington (17-0, 10 KO) didn\u2019t have it all his way in this fight, which was his first crack at a full world title as a professional. But the 28-year-old Brooklyn native delivered on the hype he\u2019s gotten as a Top Rank prospect, stopping a game and competitive Castro (30-4, 14 KO) with a nice series of punches, having adjusted well after Castro definitely gave him some tough early rounds.<\/p>\n
The official time of the knockout was 1:29 of round nine. Referee Charlie Fitch reached the count of 10 without Castro getting back to his feet.<\/p>\n
Carrington has now fully solidified himself as a name to know at 126 lbs, and the world title will, of course, put a big target on him, as he brings something to the table now that every fighter will want, including fellow champions in the division.<\/p>\n
\u201cI told you, (Castro) is a dangerous guy. He got me on a shot that kinda buzzed me. He was tough through and through,\u201d Carrington said. \u201cIt was a tough fight, but I expected it to be a tough fight and to finish strong.\u201d<\/p>\n
