{"id":451703,"date":"2026-02-01T13:50:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T13:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/451703\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T13:50:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T13:50:20","slug":"mosman-park-carer-maddie-page-leads-tributes-for-leon-and-otis-clune-who-she-says-were-failed-by-ndis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/451703\/","title":{"rendered":"Mosman Park: Carer Maddie Page leads tributes for Leon and Otis Clune, who she says were \u2018failed by NDIS\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">A support worker who cared for the two boys who died in a suspected double murder-suicide in Mosman Park has led tributes to the brothers, who she said had captured her heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Maddie Page \u2014 who knew the boys, who both had autism, for more than 10 years \u2014 also said the family had been let down by the National Disability Insurance Scheme, stating the pair\u2019s parents were their \u201cbiggest, fiercest supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Friends are continuing to remember and pay tribute to Leon, 16, and Otis, 14 who were found dead along with their parents, Jarrod Clune and Maiwenna Goasdoue, inside their home on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Both boys are believed to have been killed by their parents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Reports since the family tragedy was uncovered suggested one of the boys had recently had their NDIS funding cut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">To Ms Page, all they wanted was to be understood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI witnessed firsthand the immense love within their family, as well as the courage and resilience they showed during times of extreme difficulty and countless obstacles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/7c25527133dabeb7e80e007d355e2c33454fe859.jpg\" alt=\"Maddie Page with one of the Clune brothers. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconMaddie Page with one of the Clune brothers. The consistent dedication and deep love Mai and Jarrod showed for their boys, and the ways they never stopped fighting for them to feel seen and heard in this world will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cMay they rest in peace together as a family, NDIS \u2014 do better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">As the unimaginable suspected murder of the two brothers continues to be investigated on Sunday, police cars and forensic trucks lined the quiet cul\u2011de\u2011sac as officers moved to and from the Clune family home, carrying evidence bags and equipment through the street.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/833420f41cc212fe168a24c39f657b9a0c24897f.jpg\" alt=\"Leon and Otis Clune.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconLeon and Otis Clune. Credit: Facebook<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">A single bouquet of bright flowers sat at the base of a tree holding up the police tape on Mott Close \u2014 a splash of colour in a street marked by grief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Online parent groups of children with autism were flooded with tributes to the boys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The Australian Neurodivergent Parents Association, which led a candlelit vigil Saturday, shared a moving poem about the boys penned by a mother of an autistic child.<\/p>\n<p>READ THE POEM DEDICATED TO OTIS AND LEON BELOW<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cOtis. Leon. You moved through the world, together, side by side, each with your own way of knowing, each shaping the other\u2019s days,\u201d the poetic tribute by Ash Smith included.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cYou belonged. You were children. Not diagnoses. Not burdens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The sentiment was echoed by others who knew the boys, with one sharing online how their involvement with the Clune family will forever impact their life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cMy heart is broken, they forever had an impact on my life for the time I worked with Leon and Otis and Jarrod and Mai (were) some of the nicest people I met,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/c97c6adfd914e521d823a40532880ad1b011630e.jpg\" alt=\"Leon Clune.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconLeon Clune. Credit: Maiwenna Goasdoue\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It emerged on Saturday that a letter found inside the home may hold crucial answers for police working to ascertain exactly how the boys died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The family pets \u2014 two dogs and a cat \u2014 were also found dead inside the western suburbs property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The note reportedly discussed the mindset of the parents and indicated some planning behind the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Police still believe their deaths were not violent and that no weapons were used.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The tragedy has also sparked anger, with violence against women and children campaigner Sherele Moody saying both boys were taken far too soon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/93a8a26bb7e8e6b2c08c63a451e3fe3f939bd772.jpg\" alt=\"Jarrod and Maiwenna.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconJarrod and Maiwenna. Going to school and playing with his brother and his pets,\u201d she wrote of Leon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cLeon Clune was a happy lad who deserved every opportunity to grow and to be safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Ms Moody also paid tribute to Otis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cOtis Clune was a little boy with dreams, ambitions, likes and dislikes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cHe deserved to explore all the things the world has to offer. The 14-year-old did not deserve to die. And neither did Leon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Tributes also flowed for Jarrod Clune, who was remembered by friend Justin Bajada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cAbsolute legend. Dinky di most honest bloke I\u2019ve ever known. Caring, thought provoking, cheeky as f..k, adventurous, carefree, loving. Stand up.
