An extension to the Moreton Bay Cycleway has opened in Queensland, improving access to Brisbane Airport.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new 600-metre shared path, which stretches between Schneider Road and Viola Place, closes a key gap in the cycleway network and makes it safer to ride to or through the airport.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
It links the Gateway Bridge bikeway to the Kedron Brook bikeway.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Riders can connect to Lamington Avenue and through to Lores Bonney Riverwalk via Nudgee Road.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The path, which varies in width from 2.5 to 3 metres, features solar lighting, fencing, line marking and wayfinding signage. The project has also seen the replacement of the weir which crosses a waterway.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Approximately 25,000 people travel to the airport each day for work, with that number expected to grow by 20,000 in the next two decades.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The project was jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.<\/p>\n
