Police are searching for a group of men who slashed and then ran over a teenager in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda on Tuesday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The attack was carried out by two men police described as acting like “rabid dogs” during the incident and who remain on the run.<\/p>\n

Victoria Police said a grey Kia rental car pulled into the McDonalds in The Esplanade, St Kilda, just after 10pm and was followed by a stolen white Mazda.<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Mark Patrick said the Mazda crashed into the back of the Kia near the McDonalds drive through.<\/p>\n

“A male jumped out of the Mazda armed with a knife and went to the passenger-side door where the window was down and slashed at a male occupant aged 17 years old,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Kia drove away from the restaurant but was followed by the Mazda and entered a dead end street, where the occupants got out.<\/p>\n

“The occupants of that white Mazda jumped into the Kia, took control of the Kia, running over the young boy, the 17-year-old who had been slashed earlier,” Detective Inspector Patrick said.<\/p>\n

“The vehicle ran over that young boy and then made its way back out into Acland Street with two occupant onboard. A third male had jumped some fences trying to evade police who were in attendance.”<\/p>\n

A witness said the incident happened in her street.<\/p>\n

“There were two cars driving extremely fast down a double dead end so I knew there was going to be a problem and I heard a massive crash, ran downstairs and the second car was running over people from the first car,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The car ran over him the first time and then reversed over him to get him the second time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The people jumped out and stabbed him in the face and then that victim ran away.”<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old boy was found in St Leonards Avenue with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

The Kia was later found abandoned nearby in Fitzroy Street.<\/p>\n

Police are still searching for the two men believed to have carried out the attack, who police described as being of African appearance.<\/p>\n

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances behind the incident and whether the parties were known to each other.<\/p>\n

“The crimes are serious, the offenders have no humanity,” Detective Inspector Patrick said.<\/p>\n

“They were behaving like dogs, rabid dogs is what I would call these behaviours.”<\/p>\n

Uniform officers, the Critical Incident Response Team, Dog Squad and Public Order Response Team members searched the area with assistance from the Air Wing.<\/p>\n
