Gold Coast motor racing driver Jack Doohan has been handed a Formula One lifeline, signing on with a new team following his split from Alpine.<\/p>\n
Doohan has been snapped up by Haas as a reserve driver for the 2026 F1 season.<\/p>\n
He\u2019ll be a back-up for full-time drivers Ollie Bearman and Esteban Ocon.<\/p>\n
Doohan says Haas is the ideal place for him to continue his Formula One career.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together,\u201d Doohan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m eager to begin working with the team and collaborating on a successful season.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old\u2019s future in the sport was up in the air following his departure from Alpine.<\/p>\n
Doohan made his F1 debut for the French outfit in 2025, but only managed seven races before being replaced by Franco Colapinto and demoted to reserve driver.<\/p>\n
Doohan was under contract with Alpine for this year but they mutually agreed to part ways last month.<\/p>\n
He was expected to race in Japan\u2019s Super Formula Championship but will join Haas ahead of the season opener in Melbourne next month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m personally very excited to have Jack join us on the team given the strength of his racing resume and of course his experience in being a reserve driver in Formula 1,\u201d Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu said.<\/p>\n
