A former NRL star has had a frightening encounter after he chased away masked would-be crooks at his home in Brisbane\u2019s east – all while in nothing but his underpants.<\/p>\n
David Mead scared off the two people who attempted to break into his residency at 1.42am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
At the time him and his wife Taneal were asleep in bed when Mead said he heard strange sounds downstairs.<\/p>\n
In the CCTV footage uploaded to Mead\u2019s Instagram, he could be heard screaming \u201cwhat the f***\u201d, as a car with the pair screeched and took off.<\/p>\n
\u201cWHAT THE **?!\u201d Mead said in a caption on his post.<\/p>\n
\u201cAttempted break in last night at our house.<\/p>\n
\u201cYoung fellas out there don\u2019t get involved with this crap. Don\u2019t waste your future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mead played 147 games for the Gold Coast Titans and 25 for the Brisbane Broncos between 2009 to 2022. He represented Papua New Guinea, PNG Prime Minister\u2019s XIII and Country NSW.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old told Code Sports the incident was \u201cpretty scary\u201d and that he is glad no one got hurt.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaneal woke up and said \u2018I think someone is in the house\u2019. I heard the door knob turn and then it clicked. I knew straight away someone was in the house,\u201d Mead said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI jumped out of bed and went around the corner, I saw the door closing and a shadow running. There\u2019s 18 stairs and I jumped most of them and tripped at the end.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just glad no-one got hurt. If you hurt them, you can go to jail, or they could badly hurt you.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe police got there really quickly and were great. They told us there were some people causing havoc around our suburbs.\u201d<\/p>\n
High-profile footy players sent Mead their best wishes on Instagram following the scary incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cCuz crazy hope you good brother,\u201d NRL journeyman Joe Ofahengaue said.<\/p>\n
\u201cKids be crazy these days man. Hope you guys are all good bro. Hope that pot plants all good too,\u201d Melbourne Storm star Jahrome Hughes said.<\/p>\n
