Australian pop group Bardot are reuniting for the first time in 25 years, but not all five members will be part of the long-awaited comeback.

Four of the five original bandmates will come together for a special one-off performance at the inaugural Mighty Hoopla music festival in Sydney in February.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday morning, with the festival’s Instagram announcing: “BARDOT ARE BACK BABY.”

The post featured a video of band members Belinda Chapple, Sally Polihronas, Katie Underwood and Tiffani Wood.

However, there was no mention of Sophie Monk in the video or caption.

“This isn’t poison, this is pure pop perfection,” the post read.

“For the first time in 25 years, Sally, Katie, Belinda and Tiffani are reuniting for a special, one off performance at the first ever Mighty Hoopla Sydney and honestly, we’re already waiting front row.”

Fans of the group — which was formed on the Australian reality TV series Popstars in 2000 — quickly shared their excitement.

“The world is healing,” one person wrote.

“Thank you Mighty Hoopla, never thought we’d see the day. A dream come true,” another commented.

While it’s unclear why Monk will not be joining the highly anticipated reunion, some fans were quick to suggest a replacement.

“@courtneyact to step in if Sophie isn’t around,” one person said..

Monk has previously spoken candidly about her experience during Bardot’s early years.

In an interview with The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show in August 2021, she admitted she was “extremely insecure” at the start of her career.

“People in Bardot would call me ‘the chubby one’ because I was curvy. I had boobs and the [other] girls were teensy. That was in fashion back in the day,” she said.

“The fashion has just changed dramatically.

“It’s so good that girls love having big boobs — that’s how it should be.”

Bardot were the biggest Australian girl group of the early 2000s, skyrocketing to fame after being created on Channel Seven’s hit series Popstars.

The group scored major success with songs including Poison, These Days, I Should’ve Never Let You Go and I Need Somebody.

Despite releasing two successful albums and achieving six consecutive top-20 singles, the band split just two years later.

In 2023, Chapple released a tell-all book which made claims about the reason behind the band’s break-up, with rumours saying it was due to Monk pursuing a solo career.

Speaking on The Morning Show at the time, she said the decision came as a “shock to all of us”.

“It just came overnight. I kind of stumbled across some things in my manager’s office and kind of questioned it,” she said.

“And then the next day we were told it was over.”

Mighty Hoopla, the UK’s biggest pop festival, will make its Australian debut on February 21 at Bondi Beach.

Bardot will join a star-studded line-up featuring international acts Kesha and Becky Hill, alongside local favourites Delta Goodrem and Jessica Mauboy.
