{"id":458442,"date":"2026-02-04T19:10:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T19:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/458442\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T19:10:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T19:10:13","slug":"police-lecture-teen-caught-driving-189km-h-on-sunshine-motorway-at-midnight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/458442\/","title":{"rendered":"Police lecture teen caught driving 189km\/h on Sunshine Motorway at midnight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A teenager who had only held a licence for two months has been caught speeding at 189km\/h.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The 17-year-old was pulled over by police at 12.13am on Friday on the 100km\/h Mountain Creek stretch of the Sunshine Motorway, on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">In a video released by Queensland Police on Wednesday, the officers are frustrated with the driver.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dude, we&#8217;re going to be calling your parents,&#8221;  one officer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;You&#8217;ve gone 89 kilometres per hour over the speed limit, and you&#8217;ve had your licence&#8230; what&#8217;s that? (Supplied: Queensland Police Service)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The driver, whose voice is muted on the video, says his P-Plate &#8220;literally fell off&#8221; the car, a white Toyota 86.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Officers say the speed meant the car was travelling 51 metres per second when it was spotted by police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll bet my last dollar that your mum will sit in bed and cry when you tell her how quick you&#8217;re going tonight. (Supplied: Queensland Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">His licence was suspended for six months and he lost eight demerit points.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He was also fined another $322 for driving a defective vehicle and $267 for not displaying his P-plates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">There have been 24 lives lost on Queensland roads so far in 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A teenager who had only held a licence for two months has been caught speeding at 189km\/h.
