{"id":459619,"date":"2026-02-05T07:47:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T07:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/459619\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T07:47:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T07:47:15","slug":"homes-demolition-behind-football-ground-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/459619\/","title":{"rendered":"Homes demolition behind football ground approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The demolition of houses behind Blackpool Football Club&#8217;s ground, as part of a major regeneration of the area has been approved, after a three-year delay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The planning officer at Blackpool Council has given the green light for the demolition of existing dwellings at 2-28 Henry Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The long row of terraced homes back on to the Bloomfield Road football stadium, where initial plans sought the demolition of the houses to allow construction of a new East Stand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But the proposal has now changed, with the existing East Stand being upgraded instead of a new one being built, and the demolition making room for a new concourse behind the stand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The upgrade includes new decking, 4,797 new Tangerine seats, and improved media facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The revamp also includes structural improvements, and a new suspended TV gantry to enhance broadcasting capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Blackpool Council spokesperson said: &#8220;Planning approval for the demolition of the properties on Henry Street marks an important first step in revitalising this area of the town.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Henry Street with its tinned red-bricked terraced  houses\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/d7dfc7dddc5e60d02d70b9f7213edd18.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Only one house is left occupied in Henry Street [LDRS]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Extra space freed up by the demolition will also allow for a public realm area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another project in the area is the Revoe Sports Village, next to the stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It will feature an enclosed floodlit full-size 11-a-side artificial grass pitch and a five-a-side artificial grass pitch, both with floodlighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Funded by the Town Deal, this community facility includes a single-storey changing pavilion and storage building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">All but one of the homes earmarked for demolition have been boarded up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The last remaining home is owned by a private landlord which is occupied by a family who are tenants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/lnp\/ldrs?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Byahoo.north.america%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Local Democracy Reporting Service;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Local Democracy Reporting Service<\/a> understands the landlord has reached an agreement with Blackpool Council with final legalities being settled before demolition can get under way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Listen to the best of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/curation\/p0cjdttt?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Byahoo.north.america%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:BBC Radio Lancashire on Sounds;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">BBC Radio Lancashire on Sounds<\/a> and follow BBC Lancashire on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BBCLancashire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bbclancashire\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:X;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">X<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bbclancashire\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Instagram;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Instagram<\/a>.
