{"id":459666,"date":"2026-02-05T08:19:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/459666\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T08:19:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:19:16","slug":"treasurer-jim-chalmers-would-be-sacked-from-a-public-company-over-his-inability-to-lower-inflation-senator-bridget-mckenzie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/459666\/","title":{"rendered":"Treasurer Jim Chalmers would be &#8216;sacked&#8217; from a public company over his inability to lower inflation: Senator Bridget McKenzie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Treasurer Jim Chalmers\u2019 economic abilities have been lashed by Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie, after Australians saw rates increase a twelfth time under the Albanese government.<\/p>\n<p>Rates have only fallen three times since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In Question Time on Thursday, Mr Chalmers admitted there were \u201cchallenges\u201d facing the nation\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInflation last week and rates this week we\u2019re important reminders of the challenges in our economy despite all of the progress that has been made together,\u201d Mr Chalmers said.<\/p>\n<p>However Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie said it was his decisions that were to blame.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Sky News, Ms McKenzie said it &#8220;Australians are rightfully concerned that Treasurer Chalmers is still in a job when every decision he makes, he&#8217;s not putting downward pressure on inflation and therefore we&#8217;ve got interest rates on the rise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms McKenzie said if Mr Chalmers were the Chief Financial Officer of a publicly listed company, he would no longer be employed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/deb63663395e6107e79470aaf8729fe9.jpeg\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"\u2018Common sense needs to prevail\u2019: Labor unprepared to \u2018fix\u2019 fundamentals of economy\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he was the CFO of a public company, he&#8217;d be sacked with these sort of results. So we need to do our job, obviously, because Australians are hurting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the Nats are getting on with it.
