{"id":460127,"date":"2026-02-05T13:25:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/460127\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T13:25:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:25:09","slug":"changi-naval-base-steps-up-monitoring-after-crocodile-sighting-in-waters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/460127\/","title":{"rendered":"Changi Naval Base steps up monitoring after crocodile sighting in waters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Water activities such as swimming and kayaking were suspended at Sentosa&#8217;s Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong beaches as a precautionary measure following the crocodile sighting, causing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/crocodile-sentosa-beach-visitors-disappointed-5899021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">concern and disappointment<\/a> among beachgoers over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and the National Parks Board (NParks) had said that it was alerted to the animal last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>This marked the first reported crocodile sighting in Sentosa\u2019s waters to date, and it was reportedly seen again on Sunday in the waters off Marina South Pier.<\/p>\n<p>The Singapore Land Authority on Sunday also advised members of the public, in a Facebook post, to avoid water activities at St John\u2019s, Seringat, Lazarus and Kusu Islands until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, a nearly 3m-long saltwater crocodile was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/commentary\/singapore-crocodile-put-down-relocate-east-coast-park-safety-3843056\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">put down due to public safety concerns<\/a>.
