It\u2019s not every day that Lego manages to truly surprise with its licensed crossovers<\/a>, but today, they\u2019ve got us: one of the most exciting upcoming sci-fi films<\/a> of 2026,\u00a0Project Hail Mary, is getting the brick-built treatment.<\/p>\n

This morning Lego announced a new 830-piece set inspired by the new film, itself an adaptation of the novel of the same name<\/a> by\u00a0The Martian\u2018s Andy Weir. The set includes a buildable version of the titular ship, the\u00a0Hail Mary\u2014the longshot hope for humanity on a mission to try and figure out why almost every star in the universe is suddenly dying<\/a>, including our own sun\u2014which can be rotated on its display stand and features a moving crew module to create the ship\u2019s centrifugal gravity system.<\/p>\n

As well as the ship, the display base includes a small detachable vignette featuring a minifigure of Ryan Gosling\u2019s unlikely astronaut, Ryland Grace, and a small, appropriately brick-built version of the alien he encounters<\/a> on his mission, Rocky.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a great-looking little set, even if it doesn\u2019t initially seem like the kind of license Lego would go after. But of course, the company has a long history<\/a> with space sets, licensed or otherwise, and an interest in the real-world history of human spaceflight. So given Project Hail Mary\u2018s more grounded approach to interstellar travel, it\u2019s not\u00a0really all that surprising that Lego would see a kinship there with its past space-themed sets. A surprise to be sure, and definitely a welcome one considering the huge buzz the film has been getting.<\/p>\n
