Cronulla Sharks<\/a> fans are in a spin after the club revealed that Sunrise<\/a> star Matt Shrivington<\/a> was working with the players as a sprint coach.<\/p>\n

On social media on Thursday, the Sharks shared photos and videos of the much-loved Shirvo, saying: \u201cBig welcome to our new speed coach for 2026\ud83c\udfc3\u200d\u2642\ufe0f.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shrivington, of course, was a world-class sprinter and represented Australia at the 2000 Olympics in the 100m and 200m events. He also held the Australian 100m record earlier this century.<\/p>\n

After the club announced the exciting news, fans were immediately buzzing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoa this was unexpected!\u201d one fan gushed on Instagram.<\/p>\n

And another: \u201cWhat a great addition!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow good!! \ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25,\u201d blasted another.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Shirvo said he loved the gig and the culture at the Sharks was first class.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love doing this, you know, it\u2019s for me,\u201d the 47-year-old said in the Sharks video.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great passion of mine. And to leave the studio, I literally leave the show, and I come straight down here to the Shire, and it\u2019s nice.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a change for me to kind of get out of the routine that I\u2019ve got on TV. I love what I do, but it\u2019s nice to get out here. And I mean, it\u2019s raining today, but it could be anything from 35C to rain, and it\u2019s it\u2019s nice to get outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shirvington the role came about after former Bulldogs star \u2014 who now works at the Sharks \u2014 Tony Grimaldi approached him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d actually worked with (Tony) at the Doggies in the past, and just a couple of months back, he said, \u2018Hey, would you like to come down and do some speed with the Sharkies?\u2019 And I thought, \u2018yeah, love to\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said he was focussing on acceleration, agility and top speed and he had already been impressed by the players.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guys are moving really well. They\u2019re super fast, and their agility is arguably the best team I\u2019ve seen, and the way that they move around the field. They\u2019re very impressive at the moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a really good chat with Fitz (head coach Craig Fitzgibbon) as soon as I arrived here. And he said, \u2018these boys are fantastic. Great group. The culture is really good.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I saw it on day one, all the boys came up, shook my hand, said, G\u2019day, were genuinely interested in how I was going and what I was doing and the contribution that I was going to be able to make to this program.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they\u2019ve been really responsive to that. Even some of them called me personally to get a few tips and ideas and to even go beyond the sessions that we\u2019re doing here.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis group is so switched on. They keep asking me questions about how I can get better, and I love to see that. It\u2019s the enthusiasm of the team, and the culture of this team is just outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n
