The Guardian<\/a>, Hemsworth admitted that he had some reservations about revealing his\u00a0genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s (which makes him as many as 10 times more likely to develop the disease), specifically in regards to how it might be perceived by moviegoers.<\/p>\n“I wondered if I was letting people too far in,” he confessed. “Are they no longer going to believe in the action star or the Marvel character? And do I want people to know my fears and insecurities to this level?”<\/p>\n
“My appetite for racing forward has really been reined in,”\u00a0Hemsworth continued. “I\u2019ve become more aware of the fragility of things. You start thinking, ‘My dad won\u2019t be here forever.’\u00a0And my kids are now 11 and 13. Those nights where they\u2019d fight over sleeping in our bed \u2013 suddenly they\u2019re not happening anymore.”<\/p>\n
While the Thor actor returns to the MCU with this December’s Avengers: Doomsday, he told the site that his\u00a0father’s\u00a0Alzheimer’s diagnosis\u2014which is what prompted Hemsworth to get himself checked in the first place\u2014has impacted his acting choices.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I’d think, ‘I came from nothing. Who am I to turn down that kind of money?’ Justifying things that weren\u2019t the purest creative decision \u2013 but I\u2019ll be able to pay for my parents’\u00a0house, or I\u2019ll be able to help out my cousins.”<\/p>\n
He added that “it\u2019s not like I\u2019ve been handed my resignation”\u00a0and “it\u2019s not a pre-deterministic gene, but it is a strong indication. Ten years ago, I think it was more thought of as determinant.”<\/p>\n

The Russo Brothers direct\u00a0Avengers: Doomsday\u00a0and\u00a0Avengers: Secret Wars\u00a0from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the\u00a0Avengers\u00a0and\u00a0Captain America\u00a0franchises.\u00a0Loki\u00a0and\u00a0Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’s Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to help.<\/p>\n
