<\/p>\nDonald Trump and Taylor Swift are highly unlikely to be at Levi\u2019s Stadium for next week\u2019s Super Bowl, yet people can still bet on them to be there as wagering interest in the NFL continues to skyrocket in Australia with the TAB.<\/p>\n
Plenty of Aussies will skip work to feast on wings, down a few Budweisers and put on a few bets when the Seahawks and the Patriots clash next Monday (AEDT), with unprecedented interest in the NFL and the novelties that go with it.<\/p>\n
TAB is the official betting partner of the NFL until 2030, with the NFL and TAB holding the official Super Bowl watch party at the Hickens Hotel next Monday. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Super Bowl last year turned over half as many bets as the AFL grand final. When you think about it compared to Australia\u2019s national sport, that\u2019s pretty incredible,\u201d Tabcorp general manager trading and data David Beirne told the NewsWire, with a 20 per cent increase in bets expected next week.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the last couple of years, the NFL has been one of the highest-growing sports in the world, and it\u2019s taken the national interest here.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s down to a few things. The time zone suits, and social media and general fandom have helped. But one of the big turning points was in 2024 with the Taylor Swift effect when it really exploded. We saw a huge spike in Super Bowl bets that year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll it takes is a couple of key stars driving interest, and that year we had the biggest entertainer and one of the biggest stars (Travis Kelce) coming together. That\u2019s propelled the past couple of years.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Trump has a few pressing global issues right now, but punters can still bet on whether he or Swift will be at the biggest sporting event of the year so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe highly doubt big Donald will turn up to the game, but he\u2019s in the market at $9 to attend,\u201d Beirne said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the Swifties, she\u2019s $7 (to be there). Considering that Kansas City haven\u2019t made it this year, we highly doubt that it will occur.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny time Donald Trump is in a betting market, people flock to it no matter what it is. There are some believers out there, so we\u2019ve taken a few bets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Head-to-head remains the most popular market, but the biggest growth area has been same-game multis where punters can build their own narratives for a game with a series of bets. <\/p>\n

There will also be markets on Aussie star Michael Dickson, a punter for the Seahawks, with most of the money on Seattle to win. <\/p>\n
And while the game itself takes centre stage, novelty betting remains one of the most popular options, with huge interest this year on half-time performer Bad Bunny.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good for water cooler conversations, it\u2019s topical and it\u2019s a convergence of a bunch of different things coming together in one super entertainment event,\u201d Beirne said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of younger people in my team are excited to have Bad Bunny there. We offer things like \u2018will someone play with him?\u2019, and we have Cardi B at $1.45 to be on stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then we\u2019ve got other things like the staple market of national anthem time and the Gatorade colour for the winning team. I think orange is the favoured way. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was told by the team that Seattle used it when they won in 2014, so maybe that means orange will come through if they win again.\u201d<\/p>\n
The interest in the NFL will only continue to grow Down Under, especially with confirmation on Friday that the Rams and 49ers will play in Melbourne later this year. <\/p>\n
\u201cOnce the NFL brings their road show here for that fixture, it\u2019s going to be huge,\u201d Beirne said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a Sydneysider and I\u2019m really sad that Melbourne gets such a huge event because this is going to be a national event.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think people realise how big this is going to be as a one-off major event in this country, so my expectation is that the NFL will continue to grow and win public hearts and minds here.\u201d<\/p>\n
