\nKOHALA COAST, Hawaii \u2013 The No. 26-ranked UCLA men’s golf team shot 16-under 272 on the first day of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate, hosted at the Mauna Lani North Course on the big island of Hawaii.

\nOne of 20 teams in the competitive field, UCLA concluded the opening day in ninth place. The tournament continues with Round 2 on Friday and Round 3 on Saturday.

\n\u00a0

\nAuburn finished the opening day in first place (32-under 256), followed by second-place Stanford (27-under 261) and third-place Arizona State (23-under 265).

\n\u00a0

\nBruins’ junior Luciano Conlan<\/a> finished in a tie for 18th place on the individual leaderboard, carding 6-under 66 on the first day of action. Freshman Josh Kim<\/a> shot 5-under 67 (t-23rd), while senior Kyle An<\/a> finished 3-under 69 (t-42nd). Sophomore Baylor Larrabee<\/a> shot 2-under 70 on Thursday (t-60th), with a pair of birdies and no bogeys.

\nRounding out the five golfers for UCLA was sophomore Trevor Garus<\/a>, who shot even par (72).

\nCompeting as an individual for the Bruins, sophomore Logan Kim<\/a> carded 4-under 68. Both Logan Kim<\/a> and Kyle An<\/a> each registered an eagle on par-five holes. Logan Kim<\/a> had one eagle, six birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.

\nConlan finished the afternoon with seven birdies and one bogey. He birdied three of his final four holes \u2013 No. 2, 4 and 5.

\nUCLA shot the same score in Round 1 on Thursday as they did in the same round last season (16-under 272). Over the past two seasons, the men’s golf program has set a program record for 54-hole score in relation to par. Two years ago, the Bruins shot 45-under, while last season, UCLA finished at 47-under.

\nThe Bruins will open Round 2 on Friday at 9:30 a.m. PT (7:30 a.m. HT, in Hawaii).
