Kai Rooney, the 16-year-old son of Manchester United’s record goalscorer Wayne, is said to have been offered a contract by the club as he seeks to emulate his legendary father.<\/p>\n

The young attacker, who will complete his schooling this summer, has spent several years developing in United’s renowned academy system.<\/p>\n

He forms part of an exceptionally promising cohort of 14 teenagers who have received new terms from the Old Trafford hierarchy.<\/p>\n

A source told the Sun that the group is “very strong,” adding that “the majority of the boys, including Kai and Jacey, have been offered deals.”<\/p>\n

The talented batch represents the latest generation hoping to progress through United’s celebrated youth pathway, which has historically produced numerous first-team stars.<\/p>\n

The proposed arrangement would see Kai sign a one-year scholarship, which would subsequently convert into a three-year professional contract upon reaching 17.<\/p>\n

Under these terms, the left-footed forward would reportedly earn approximately \u00a350,000 per annum alongside an annual signing-on fee.<\/p>\n

However, the Rooney family has reportedly not yet approved the offer.<\/p>\n

The source explained that accepting such deals enables the youngsters to enter “full-time ‘football employment'” once they finish their education, with professional status guaranteed when they turn 17.<\/p>\n

The source told the Sun: “They still have a long way to go to make the grade, but they can be very proud that the club thinks they have a chance of making it.”<\/p>\n

All offers were made prior to Michael Carrick’s appointment as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s departure, with families given until July to reach their decisions.<\/p>\n

Among those receiving offers is Jacey Carrick, whose father, Michael, now occupies the interim manager’s position at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

The two former teammates were reunited in the stands last month when Wayne and Coleen attended Kai’s FA Youth Cup debut for the under-18s.<\/p>\n

The occasion saw Kai come on as a substitute during a 2-1 victory against Derby County, marking his first appearance at the Theatre of Dreams as a United player.<\/p>\n

His introduction prompted chants of “Rooney, Rooney” from the 2,000 supporters present, with Alan Keegan, the stadium announcer who had read out his father’s name countless times, calling out the familiar surname once more.<\/p>\n

Carrick, who won the FA Youth Cup during his time at West Ham, expressed his support for the young players.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his BBC podcast, Wayne added: “Kai got moved up to the under-18s squad for the Youth Cup and it was great to see him come on. <\/p>\n

“It brought back memories of when I played in the Youth Cup for Everton.<\/p>\n

“It was a proud moment and I’m delighted for him. Hopefully he continues that and he can have a good run with the team.”<\/p>\n
