Join now and get your first month for just $1.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Davis is teeing it up at the WM Phoenix Open this week and after posting -2 across the first two rounds, the Australian will see the weekend after making the cut.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"i-amphtml-fill-content i-amphtml-replaced-content\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/poster-fallback.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>However, it could have been so much better had the golfing gods been a little kinder to Davis on the 17th hole.<\/p>\n<p>A short par four, Davis went right at the green with his driver, landing his ball on the front of the green before watching it trickle narrowly past the hole.<\/p>\n<p>Davis was left with a small, four foot putt for eagle which he slotted.<\/p>\n<p>Had the tee shot gone in, Davis would have been celebrating the first hole in one on a par four on the PGA Tour in 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>This is how close Cam Davis&#8217; tee shot on the 322-yard par 4 was to a hole-in-one.Source: FOX SPORTS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is aggressive over there \u2026 this is fantastic,\u201d commentator Taylor Zarzour said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not had an ace on a Par 4 since Andrew McGee did it decades ago on the PGA Tour \u2013 and that\u2019s about as close we\u2019ve seen for eagle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PGA winner Robert Damron added: \u201cEven par, what a great time to pull off a shot like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remarkably, it was on the exact same hole back in 2001 when American Andrew Magee achieved the feat \u2013 the only instance a golfer has marked \u20181\u2019 on a par four in tour history. <\/p>\n<p>Davis will feature in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Phoenix Open but at -2, he\u2019s nine shots behind the leader Ryo Hisatsune and needing a minor miracle to win.<\/p>\n<p>Hisatsune rode a back-nine binge to an eight-under par 63 and a one-shot lead over fellow Japanese Hideki Matsuyama.<\/p>\n<p>Cam Davis of Australia plays his shot from the 13th tee. Picture: Justin Edmonds\/Getty ImagesSource: Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Hisatsune, a 23-year-old chasing his first PGA Tour title, picked up six strokes in the space of five holes on the back nine at TPC Scottsdale building an 11-under par total of 131.<\/p>\n<p>Matsuyama, who won back-to-back Phoenix Open titles in 2016 and 2017, teed off on 10 and surged up the leaderboard with six straight birdies from the 13th through the 18th.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted that the huge crowds can make for a nervy experience but Matsuyama, who has five top-five finishes and five top-10s in Phoenix, said he loves the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe energy that\u2019s out there, so many fans cheering you on,\u201d he said. \u201cYou hit a bad shot, they\u2019ll boo you and there is some pressure, but I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Min Woo Lee is the best placed Australian through two rounds.
