(ABC News: Anna Chisholm)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">If something is &#8220;radically expensive&#8221; there&#8217;s a good chance it has been imported and is out of season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;But, if it&#8217;s cheaper, and if it&#8217;s abundant, it probably is in season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Sue Dodd from Sydney Markets \u2014 a wholesale market in Sydney&#8217;s inner west \u2014 says she expects eggplant, sweet corn, capsicum and zucchini to be good value for money (and in good supply) in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Her top picks for fruit include grapes, figs, plums, peaches and nectarines.<\/p>\n<p>Capsicum, zucchini and tomato<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Wnuk says ingredients such as zucchini, capsicum and green beans are all the types of vegetables she might throw into a quick midweek stir-fry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Dodd says zucchini are a &#8220;thrifty buy&#8221;, with price estimations falling between $3 and $6 a kilo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-01-11\/fast-and-easy-zucchini-salad\/104694496\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Easy zucchini salad<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">This simple zucchini salad involves no cooking, making it a refreshing and light dish for hot summer nights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Zucchini is delicious barbecued at this time of year and can also be grated into fritters or other dishes. &#8220;A good vegetable to hide from kids,&#8221; she adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Wnuk says &#8220;underrated&#8221; zucchini is a great addition to a stir-fry or grilled side, but can also be used raw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Using a traditional potato peeler you can create &#8220;beautiful delicate ribbons&#8221;, or you could use a julienne peeler or spiraliser if you have one, she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;You could just have the zucchini ribbons as they are with some olive oil, salt and pepper, or make a sort of soy, sriracha, sesame oil dressing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A market display of fresh yellow capsicums, red capsicums and green beans.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/9184f46eee8d4e5f89be222c17471bbb.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Sue Dodd says the price of red capsicums has dropped. (ABC News: Anna Chisholm\u00a0)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Dodd says red capsicum prices are finally falling in price (after weather events made then unusually expensive throughout January).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">They&#8217;re also versatile and as the weather cools in some states you can transition from using them in salads to stirfrys, pastas and casseroles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Choose firm capsicums with smooth skin&#8221; and expect to pay between five to 10 dollars a kilo, Ms Dodd says.<\/p>\n<p>Recipes to try:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Tomatoes are delicious at this time of year, Ms Wnuk says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;You can make them shine just by themselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Something that I posted last year that was really popular was tomatoes \u2014 you can do it with fresh tomatoes or roasted \u2014 on a bed of whipped feta and then you can have that with some grilled chicken, some steak or some roast vegetables.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ms Dodd says we&#8217;ll continue to see high-quality tomatoes through February, including saucing tomatoes from Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Grapes, stone fruit and pineapples<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">February brings fruit that &#8220;can be incorporated into dinner&#8221;, Ms Wnuk says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">For example, a salad of zucchini ribbons, peaches and goat&#8217;s cheese &#8220;looks so beautiful on the plate [and] tastes a little bit more interesting&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A display market stall display of fresh produce, including plums, nectarines and peaches.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/524c3fb4e7ea216c14c2666ab59ed981.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Stone fruit season in Australia usually falls between November and May.
