The lead singer of American rock band 3 Doors Down has died following a battle with cancer.<\/p>\n
Brad Arnold, 47, died in his sleep surrounded by family on Saturday.<\/p>\n
In a statement the band praised Arnold for his song writing abilities, crediting him with their 2000 breakout hit \u2018Kryptonite\u2019 which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n
Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow<\/a><\/p>\n The band said Arnold wrote the song in a maths class when he was just 15 years old.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n \u201cHis music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.<\/p>\n \u201cAbove all, he was a devoted husband to Jennifer, and his kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n Arnold announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in May last year.<\/p>\n The cancer has metastasized into his lungs, the singer said in a video on social media.<\/p>\n Despite the diagnosis Arnold said he had faith in God and had \u201cno fear\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI really sincerely am not scared of it at all but it is going to force us to cancel our tour this summer and we\u2019re sorry for that and I\u2019d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get.\u201d<\/p>\n 3 Door Down formed in 1996 in Mississippi with the founding members consisting of Arnold, Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell.<\/p>\n Of the three Arnold was the only original member of the group still playing.<\/p>\n
