The Broncos confirmed the report with a brief statement.

“The Brisbane Broncos can confirm that Payne Haas and his management have advised the Broncos that he intends to depart the Club at the end of the 2026 season,” the statement read.

“A signed contract reflecting that position has been lodged with the NRL and the Broncos will make no further comment on the matter until the expiration of the normal ten-day cooling off period.”

The news comes just as Haas and the Broncos prepare to fly out to England for their World Club Challenge match against Hull KR later this month.

Haas has reportedly let his Brisbane teammates know of his decision.

Considered the game’s best prop, Haas’ future has been a hot topic this off-season given the rumours he was considering a code switch to R360.

When the R360 start date was postponed by two years, the Broncos were again the short favourites to win Haas’ signature for 2027.

Haas’ decision is a stunner given coach Michael Maguire’s recent comments.

It was reported earlier this month that Haas had agreed to a one-year deal for 2027 with Brisbane, which he planned to sign after the World Club Challenge.

Maguire stated just days ago that he didn’t think Haas will leave the Broncos.

“I don’t believe he will leave,” Maguire told Code Sports.

“Payne has said he wants to stay and that’s a fair reflection of where we are at the moment.”

However, it appears the Rabbitohs have since swooped in with a offer the star middle couldn’t refuse.

As per Code Sports, Souths stars David Fifita and Latrell Mitchell were key in getting Haas to turn his back on the Broncos and switch to the Bunnies.

The Rabbitohs swiftly released a statement after the news broke on Sunday afternoon.

“The South Sydney Rabbitohs have lodged a signed contract with the NRL for Payne Haas to join the Club for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons,” the statement read.

“The contract is now subject to the ten-day cooling-off period. The Rabbitohs will be respecting the cooling-off period rules set by the NRL.

“The Rabbitohs will make no further comment regarding this until the ten-day cooling-off period has expired.”

[9
64,63,689,106622,4428,1208,2057,763,673,3583,677,13390,4439,85,33868,93666,670,1651,40620
post-465823","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sports","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-australia-and-new-zealand","tag-bombshell-development","tag-brisbane-broncos","tag-england","tag-europe","tag-fox-league","tag-new-south-wales","tag-northern-europe","tag-oceania","tag-payne-haas","tag-south-sydney-rabbitohs","tag-sports","tag-star-prop","tag-storm-v","tag-sydney","tag-wayne-bennett","tag-world-club-challenge
["GET
