Mark Ruffalo<\/a>\u00a0has taken aim at\u00a0Shark Tank\u00a0entrepreneur Kevin O\u2019Leary over his criticism of\u00a0Billie Eilish<\/a>\u2019s anti-ICE speech at the\u00a0Grammys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last weekend, the singer picked up the Song\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0Year prize for her \u2018Hit Me Hard And Soft<\/a>\u2019 track \u2018Wildflower\u2019,\u00a0and in her acceptance speech,\u00a0she took aim at the controversial US agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is illegal on stolen land,\u201d she said, while wearing a pin reading \u201cICE OUT\u201d.\u00a0\u201cI feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter\u2026 and fuck ICE.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her comments brought about criticisms from many on the US right<\/a>, including Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who called her \u201cill-informed\u201d,\u00a0and\u00a0Elon Musk<\/a>, who braded her a \u201chypocrite\u201d.<\/p>\n

Another to speak out was O\u2019Leary, the Canadian entrepreneur and star of\u00a0Shark Tank, the US equivalent of\u00a0Dragons Den.\u00a0He appeared on\u00a0Fox News\u00a0and said: \u201cHalf the people in politics that you piss off\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0buy your music anymore.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the first lesson 101 for celebrity: as you\u00a0rise up, whether\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0a film star, a music star, or whatever, shut your mouth and just entertain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

His comments triggered a reaction from\u00a0Avengers <\/a>and\u00a0Poor Things\u00a0<\/a>star Ruffalo, who shared a passionate defence of Eilish on Threads. \u201cWhy don\u2019t you STFU?\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s hilarious. You will go on any show and talk shit about any number of things and smugly expect us to listen to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Leary made his film debut in Josh Safdie\u2019s celebrated ping-pong drama, playing the obnoxious, arrogant stationery\u00a0salesman\u00a0Milton Rockwell.<\/p>\n

Ruffalo is no stranger to speaking his mind politically \u2013\u00a0at the Golden Globes last month, he wore a badge honouring\u00a0Renee Good<\/a>, who was shot dead by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Speaking about Donald Trump<\/a>, he also said: \u201cHe\u2019s\u00a0the worst human being. If\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0relying on this guy\u2019s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0all in a lot of trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo this is for her,\u201d the actor added. \u201cThis is for the people in the United States who are terrorised and scared today. I know I\u2019m one of them. I love this country. And what I\u2019m seeing here happening is not America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another person to defend Eilish and her Grammys speech has been her brother Finneas<\/a>, who wrote:\u00a0\u201cSeeing a lot of\u00a0very powerful\u00a0old white men outraged about what my 24-year-old sister said during her acceptance speech. We can\u00a0literally see\u00a0your names in the Epstein files.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Grammys\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0the first time that Eilish has voiced her opinion on ICE. Last month she\u00a0urged other famous people to speak out about ICE\u2019s actions in Minnesota<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which led to the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.<\/p>\n

Before then, she\u00a0called the agency a \u201cfederally funded and supported terrorist group\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that was \u201ctearing apart families,\u00a0terrorising\u00a0citizens, and now murdering innocent people\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) subsequently responded to Eilish<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0claims, and\u00a0said: \u201cIt\u2019s garbage rhetoric from the likes of Billie Eilish that is leading to a 1,300 per cent increase in assaults and 3,200 per cent increase in vehicle\u00a0rammings\u00a0against our brave law enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Countless other artists have been vocal about the escalating violence from ICE, including Bruce Springsteen, who penned the new song \u2018Streets Of Minneapolis\u2019<\/a>, as well as Bad Bunny<\/a>, Tom Morello<\/a>,\u00a0Lady Gaga<\/a>\u00a0and many more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mark Ruffalo\u00a0has taken aim at\u00a0Shark Tank\u00a0entrepreneur Kevin O\u2019Leary over his criticism of\u00a0Billie Eilish\u2019s anti-ICE speech at the\u00a0Grammys.
