Brad Arnold, founding member and lead singer of 3 Doors Down, has died. He was 47.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47,\u201d the band wrote in an Instagram post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Arnold died of kidney cancer. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer,\u201d the post continued.<\/p>\n

The singer was known for radio hits including \u201cKryptonite<\/a>,\u201d \u201cHere Without You<\/a>\u201d and \u201cWhen I\u2019m Gone<\/a>.\u201d The band said Arnold wrote \u201cKryptonite\u201d while in his high school algebra class. <\/p>\n

\u201cBrad\u2019s songwriting became a cultural touchstone for a generation, producing some of the most enduring hits of the 2000s, including the band\u2019s breakout hit, \u2018Kryptonite,\u2019 which he wrote in his math class when he was just 15 years old,\u201d 3 Doors Down said in the post. \u201cHis music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band also played \u201cKryptonite,\u201d known best for the lyrics \u201cIf I go crazy then will you still call me Superman?\u201d at an event for President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s first inauguration in 2017<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The band\u2019s business manager, Angus Vail, said at the time<\/a> that the members come from \u201cconservative families\u201d and \u201chave very different political beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer publicly announced<\/a> his cancer diagnosis in May.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out,\u201d Arnold said at the time. \u201cI actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized into my lungs. And that\u2019s stage four, and that\u2019s not real good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arnold is survived by his wife.<\/p>\n
