A young pilot has been killed in a light plane crash<\/a> in Queensland<\/a>\u2019s north.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old Clifton man was the sole occupant of a Beechcraft King Air aircraft which crashed into a crocodile-infested marshland near Normanton Airport, in outback Queensland near the Gulf of Carpentaria, on Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Police were unable to access the crash site for some time as floodwaters impacted the bushy area.<\/p>\n

\u201cInitial access to the scene was hindered by challenging conditions, including ongoing weather, which prevented access by vehicle or boat,\u201d Queensland Police said.<\/p>\n

Police set out on foot to retrieve the body on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

They waded through the knee-deep, crocodile-infested water in the marsh to get to the wreckage, and were accompanied by rifle-carrying colleagues, the ABC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

The recovered body, which is yet to be formally identified, is believed to be that of the 32-year-old pilot.<\/p>\n

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.<\/p>\n

ATSB investigators will conduct a \u201csite survey, wreckage examination, witness interviews, and retrieval of the cockpit voice recorder\u201d.<\/p>\n

Pilot and aircraft maintenance records, weather information, and any available flight tracking data will also be collected during the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n

Police will also assist with the ATSB investigation.<\/p>\n

The crash came just hours after another light plane crashed in South Australia<\/a> killing all three people on board.<\/p>\n

The Cessna was seen nosediving into the waters off Goolwa South about 4.30pm on Friday<\/p>\n

Leo Howard, 53, Tristan Scheffers, 18, and Lucas Di Biase, 20, all died in the submerged wreckage.<\/p>\n
