Not rushing into making stress led decisions, feeling like your home “must be finished” before you move in. It absolutely doesn’t.

If you think about homes that feel well put together, cohesive and well, homely, more often than not, the owners have added elements over time.

We live in a world of instant gratification, constantly bombarded with images online of “perfect homes” and that’s what we all want. But these are not realistic. I can guarantee you that for every beautifully curated image you see online, there is a mess or even just emptiness behind the camera.

So often, we feel pressured to have all the rugs, coffee tables and candles, all before we’ve even moved in. Unless you’re using the services of an Interior Designer – and sometimes even if you are – this is just not feasible. Not to mention the costs.

As an Interior Designer, I will always recommend living in the space for a while to see how you use it, how it functions for you and then invest in pieces that you love and will enjoy for years to come.

What’s that saying? “Buy cheap, buy twice”. Don’t do it to yourself.

By embracing slow interiors, it means stepping back, using what you already have until you find the perfect piece, whether that’s a bedside table, a piece of art or your dining chairs.

All images are from a Commercial project by Eyra Interiors, Italy, 2020 – 2025

Our homes, just like ourselves, are ever evolving. If you think about all the different life stages our homes go through – young family, teenagers, empty nest, older relatives, boomerang adult children moving back in and our own aging process, it makes sense that we’ll add and take away elements as we go through life.

So take my advice, relax, stick the credit card in the freezer and enjoy your home, after all, that’s what it’s for!

Eyra Interiors is taking bookings for 2026.
