(WWSB) &#8211; It might sound surprising, but one local gym is proving that punches can pack a powerful health benefit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Punches, jabs, and crosses\u2014it might look like a typical boxing workout, but at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rudedogboxing.net\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.rudedogboxing.net\/\">Rude Dog Boxing<\/a>, fighters are taking on more than just an opponent. They\u2019re battling Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Owner <a href=\"https:\/\/boxrec.com\/en\/box-pro\/1072816\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/boxrec.com\/en\/box-pro\/1072816\">Paul Iannuzzi<\/a> started the program after watching his own mother struggle with the condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI was unhappy with the way things were being handled with her\u2014a lot of medication\u2014and I figured, you know, let me try something different and see if I can help,\u201d said Iannuzzi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">That \u201csomething different\u201d turned into years of research. Iannuzzi connected with neurologists and medical experts before launching the class nearly a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Today, the gym offers specialized boxing workouts designed to help with balance, coordination, and other symptoms often impacted by Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/02\/08\/southwest-florida-figure-skaters-head-pennsylvania-competition\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/02\/08\/southwest-florida-figure-skaters-head-pennsylvania-competition\/\">Southwest Florida figure skaters head to Pennsylvania competition<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For Jo Ann Miller, the impact has been life-changing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m stable and I\u2019m happy. I have lost all that insecurity,\u201d Miller added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She says that when she was diagnosed just over 3 years ago, it was a shock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI was devastated. I couldn\u2019t tell anybody,\u201d said Miller.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Now, she feels stronger and more confident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It\u2019s not just about throwing punches. Participants also work on memory drills, footwork, and stability exercises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cBe confident in yourself, believe in yourself, listen to your body, and don\u2019t stop what you\u2019re doing,\u201d said Robert Gau, a participant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cCome here for help. Don\u2019t be shy. You know you\u2019re not the only one,\u201d added Craig Kahil, another participant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Rude Dog Boxing now runs Parkinson\u2019s disease programs at four locations, proving that sometimes fighting back starts one punch at a time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WWSB.
