(Anthony Wallace\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t receive legal punishment because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/corruption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">we had connections<\/a>,&#8221; he told Amnesty International in an interview.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/north-korea-missile-launch-puts-south-korea-japan-high-alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NORTH KOREA MISSILE LAUNCH THAT PUT SOUTH KOREA, JAPAN ON HIGH ALERT ENDS IN FAILURE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Joonsik said three of his sisters\u2019 high school friends were given multi-year labor camp sentences in the late 2010s after being caught watching South Korean dramas, a punishment he said reflected their families\u2019 inability to pay bribes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The authorities criminalize access to information in violation of international law, then allow officials to profit off those fearing punishment.
